I can't believe 2016 is coming to an end. It feels like I was just sitting in our duplex at the kitchen on a sleepy January morning table trying to pick my word for the year, and now mulling over just how much has happened since then kind of blows my mind. This was a big year. If I may be so bold, it's a year I'm really proud of. If you would have told me that within 365 I would graduate college (finally), launch into my photography business full time, book 12 beautiful weddings with the ... View the Post
Present Over Perfect + 10 Ways to be Present this Fall
I went over to the conference book table and let my eyes fall on each title propped up against a stack of spines. I saw books with pretty covers that sounded entertaining. I saw books that sounded reasonably helpful for women my age. When I saw this book though, I got a feeling. Or rather, a big mixing bowl of feelings. Feeling number one came because my word for the 2016 year is Present. How apt to find a book written on my word for the year! Being "present" had been going really well for me at ... View the Post
My All-Natural Makeup Picks for this Fall
Using natural products makes me feel good. Like, not just actually feel good physically, but there is something beneficial mentally knowing that what I'm putting in or on my body isn't anything that could over time be damaging. I knew that a lot of makeup (like everything else it seems like) is made with harmful chemicals, but the thought of trying to replace all of my favorite products with something organic seemed both daunting and undesirable (and expensive)–could I really get the same ... Transitions
Suddenly, seemingly overnight, there are yellow leaves littering the lawn. Slowly falling like leathery, wafting boats, I can feel a sort of similar change in my soul identifying with the leaves that are shriveling up and falling to be cradled by the grass. I think the changing of summer into fall is my favorite seasonal transition. It's one that is slow and sudden at the same time, but once it's happening, you can tell–because things start dying away. Fall is an interesting season ... View the Post
She Speaks Conference 2016
In high school, if you had asked me what I wanted to be, I would have said a writer. I took every literature class I could get into. I remember reading Noah Lukeman's The First Five Pages (a book on author technique) when I was in the eighth grade. Nothing made me feel more accomplished than getting a good score back on my essay in Advanced Composition. Thesaurus.com was bookmarked at the top of my favorites page. I loved reading the classics and devoured every Jane Austen novel multiple ... View the Post
On My List: Summer Reads!
My book wishlist on Amazon is about 32 pages long. I love books. I love reading. And honestly, I think summer is one of the best months to turn a new leaf and pick up some books that you've been wanting to read. At our new house, we actually don't have cable or internet yet, and probably won't until September. But, this has actually been fantastic because it has forced me to not be able to work or watch TV at night - so I read instead! I encourage my fellow wannabe-readers to take ... View the Post
