Typically, I am a summer girl and am never ready for fall. However, I have to say, this is one of the first times I feel so ready for fall to get here. I’ve been trying to summon cooler days by getting more books out that I want to read and buying (too many) cozy blankets to curl up in. While I’m waiting on these hot days to cool off and get with the program, I’ve been looking into what type of hot, healthy drinks that aren’t tea that I can make once the cooler weather gets here. I drink tea on the daily, but there something comforting and cozy about a hot, frothy drink while the leaves turn colors.
As far as hot beverages go, I don’t actually love drinking coffee. I love coffee cups, the idea of drinking coffee in the morning, the smell of coffee, and even coffee flavored things like ice cream, but as far as coffee itself, it’s not my thing. Sometimes I’ll make it when we make a big breakfast, but I’ll only take a couple of sips before I realize I’d rather have apple juice like a six year old. One type of hot drink I had heard a lot about included something called matcha. Matcha is actually a type of green tea powder that is supposed to have a lot of health benefits, namely, antioxidants and energy-boosters. Having been pretty drowsy these past few weeks, I decided that rather than trying to figure out a way to make my own pumpkin spice latte of cream, pumpkin, and sugar (hold the coffee), I decided to try to make a drink out of matcha that had similar tastes of a “fall latte.”
I love vanilla, so I knew I wanted to incorporate that somehow, and I also love pumpkin this time of year, and my favorite kind of milk is coconut milk, so I just started with that and this is what happened. One thing– if you don’t own coconut oil, get some! Adding the few tablespoons is what makes this really creamy. I can’t wait to drink this all winter while snuggled up at home with a good book!
