My book wishlist on Amazon is about 32 pages long.
I love books. I love reading. And honestly, I think summer is one of the best months to turn a new leaf and pick up some books that you’ve been wanting to read. At our new house, we actually don’t have cable or internet yet, and probably won’t until September. But, this has actually been fantastic because it has forced me to not be able to work or watch TV at night – so I read instead! I encourage my fellow wannabe-readers to take one evening a week to switch out laying in bed watching HGTV (oh, HGTV how I do miss you though…) and pick up that book you’ve been wanting to read! Books have such a great impact on us – even subconsciously – so don’t feel guilty for taking some time to dig into a fresh perspective or someone’s faith story. You will notice that basically my entire reading list is Christian non-fiction written by female authors. Anymore, my time is precious, so I only choose books that I know are going to help me grow in my walk with God or gain a new perspective, and these are the ones I’ve been looking at that fit the bill.
I just started this book. My mom gave it to me and I’ve been reading a bit before bed every night. My favorite part so far is how funny and candid Annie is. She tells it like it is and writes in all caps a lot, so you actually start to feel like you know her. It’s not as flowery as some other popular, Christian “live in the moment” books are right now, which is refreshing. I feel like I can relate more to Annie with her style of writing alone. Aside from that, her story is just normal. Nothing miraculous – she’s just another human like me, which draws me in. Can’t wait to get more into it!
This is another one that I started before we moved. It is currently missing, but once I find it I know I’ll finish it in just a couple of sittings. Emily writes in an easy-to-read manner with understandable, real life anecdotes about her kids and mom-life. Sound boring? The whole point of the book is finding the beauty and purpose in every day moments. It’s a lot like the other books on this topic right now (super popular in the Christian non-fiction sphere), but her writing voice is enjoyable, relaxing, and it’s worth a read.
Again, another book on living right where you are. What caught my eye about this one though was the title. Alexandra’s “experiment” sounds fun and I’m curious what she learned.
I haven’t really read a lot of books on friendship and community, but it’s something I know I need to work on, so I added this one to my list. “Giddy Up, Eunice” from my understanding is about women breaking down stereotypes and coming together in friendship and mentorship in Christ.
I’ve heard so much talk about this book by Elizabeth Gilbert. Or rather, I’ve seen a lot of hipsters post pictures of the book on Instagram talking about how amazing it is. I know, I’m way behind on the trend train, but I went ahead and added it to my list to try!
Brené is a really cool human. I look up to her 1) because she’s a great writer, 2) because she’s a great speaker, and 3) because she’s a psych-lover. Can’t wait to dig into this one and maybe some of her other books as well and feed into my psych-nerd side.
Oh, Lysa. You came out with another book and I am one of the many just waiting to get my copy. Lysa is one of my favorite female faith authors, and this book is one that I’m really ready for. It’s a more unheard of topic – how do you live fully and loved when you feel completely invisible and lonely? I think this is a beautiful concept to tackle, and is one that hits home for me. Can’t wait for it to be released! This weekend I will be attending the She Speaks Conference in Concord, North Carolina where Lysa will be hosting and teaching aspiring female faith writers from around the country. I’m hoping that she will shed some behind the scenes light on what this book is going to cover!
