Have you ever gone to a craft show before and seen a booth with like, a billion types of soap?
Lemon vanilla with little sparkles on the top… Raspberry almond with dried roses… Jasmine lilac with charcoal. The endless options!
Well, we’re 100% those people that go into that booth and sniff every single one of those bars and buy at least four of them. #guilty
There’s something about a fresh bar of homemade soap that just feels better than the normal, store-bought stuff! Plus, homemade is almost always more natural.
But who has time to make their own soap?
Well… you might, actually!
I took a stab at making my own melt-and-pour goat milk soap recently and to my surprise, it took LESS than 24 hours! And I got over 12 thick bars out of the one batch. #score
If you’re looking for a fun DIY to do this weekend with some friends or your kids, here’s how to make your own!
What you need:
- Melt and pour goat’s milk soap base (this one that is linked is organic)
- Silicone soap mold
- Essential oils
- Floral garnishes for the top (optional)
Directions:
Step 1: Melt your soap base in 30 second increments in the microwave. Stir after every 30 seconds with a rubber spatula.
Step 2: Once the base is melted, add in your essential oils. I used 3 drops of lemon and 3 drops of lavender.
Step 3: Mix until combined, and add any additional scents you want in the soap.
Step 4: Pour into your mold. Let it sit on the counter for 20 minutes before adding any “garnishes” on the top. I did loose lavender and some zested lemon rind.
Step 5: Either let the mold sit out overnight or transfer it to the fridge.
Step 6: Once set, take the soap out of the molds. If you’re using a “loaf” mold, you’ll want to cut the slices. (Highly recommend the kit we got because it includes two slicers!)
And there you have it! Beautiful, homemade bars of soap in less than 24 hours!
We made these before Valentine’s Day so that we would have little gifts (that are super affordable) to give away friends and family. Just tie a little ribbon and a note on there and you’re good to go!
If you try this project, let me know! I’m looking forward to experimenting with more essential oil scents and maybe even some colors!
